New Workshops with Alex Oliva

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, there's something for everyone. Join us and explore the world of Cyr Wheel, Aerial Pole, and Aerial Straps!
Date: Sunday, Feb. 16th Time: 2:15 - 3:45 Cost: $90
Open Level Intro to Cyr Wheel: Ever witnessed the mesmerizingly beautiful Cyr wheel? Well, now you can step inside the ring in this introductory workshop! We'll start by learning various ways to manipulate the wheel around your body and the floor through various pathways. Then, we'll practice passing it between two people, and finally we'll step inside and take it for a spin! You'll leave with an appreciation of what it takes to create fluid movement on Cyr wheel and hopefully inspire you to explore Cyr even further!
No prerequisites
Date: Sunday, February 16th Time: 4:00 - 5:30 Cost $90
Open Level Intro to Aerial Pole: Blending the athleticism of Chinese pole, the flow of dance pole, and the grace of aerial acrobatics, aerial pole (a.k.a. flying pole) is a unique and impressive discipline. In this workshop, we'll get a taste of the many ways to use the pole. We'll start by learning basic orbiting tricks with it anchored on the ground at an angle. After, we'll take it into the air, first practicing shapes using a hand loop, and then without it to learn basic climbs, positions, and even some drops!
Prerequisites: ability to invert on another apparatus, ability to hang from one arm with an engaged shoulder for 10 seconds
Note: The rubber coating on an aerial pole can be a bit uncomfortable at first! Some students appreciate wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt to protect your skin. Others prefer exposed skin for maximum grip. I recommend bringing options you can layer on during the workshop. Feel free to bring a sports wristband to protect your wrist during the hand loop portion, but it is not necessary.
Date: Sunday, February 16th Time: 5:45 - 7:15 Cost $90
Open Level Intro to Aerial Straps: Come try out aerial straps, a high-flying, excitingly dynamic discipline! Together, we'll learn the basic positions and skills to begin your straps journey or to transfer to other aerial disciplines like trapeze or silks! After a thorough warm-up, we'll learn proper placement in positions like meathook, nutcracker, reverse nutcracker/scorpion, and support position. We'll explore both artistic and technical aspects of spinning, and we'll finish by taking it into the air and learning beats and swings! You'll leave with the proper tools to continue conditioning and building these skills across a variety of aerial disciplines.
Prerequisites: ability to invert on another apparatus, ability to hang from two arms with engaged shoulders for 10 seconds
Note: Feel free to bring sports wristbands to protect your wrists, but they are not necessary.
